Felting is fun

I tried my first felting project last night. It was so much fun, I think I will do a felted purse or something next. If anyone has a cool pattern, let me know. The thing that I made last night is going to be a gift for someone so I'm not going to post a picture and ruin the surprise for her. I kind of made up the process as I went based on a paragraph I read from one pattern and a memory of some tv show in which a girl felted a hat. So it was a surprise to me when it turned out so well. First, I did the crochet portion (making the pattern up, as I went along) with some wool yarn. Then, I put it a a big bowl of hot soapy water swished it around and roughed it up as much as possible. Occasionally, I would take it out of the bowl and just rough it up in my hands. After it no longer looked like a crochet piece and it looked like a piece of felt, I ironed it dry on the wool setting. Once it was dry, I cut the extra strings off and did the sewing part. It was pretty simple and fun. When I first saw the process on that crafty tv show, I thought it looked like fun but it also looked intimidating. Now that I've tried it, I want to do more.
