First Pillow

This is the pillow I made on my Singer 500a. The picture is a corner of my pillow room, I hope to fill the bottom of the room with pillows.

Thanks so much for posting your directions, ya'll had the best diagrams. I recieved the machine from a friend. Her late mother used it and she was ready to get rid of it, I already have lots of projects in mind. Now all you need to post is a "trouble shooting" section for beginners. LOl

Thanks

I'm so glad that I found your information!!! I came across this machine yesterday at a thrift store. I was just looking for a sewing machine cabinet and this machine came with it. I was so excited when I got it home and it worked. I typed in the model online and there all your information was!!! This is something new for me but I'm sure with your instructions that it will be a lot easier..

Thanks again for the info...

Hi, Thanks for sharing this valuable information. I just inherited my mom's Singer 500A- she used to make me beautiful dresses and when I learned to sew 9somewhat) I made my junior prom dress on it! My dad did not have the manual so I was looking on the internet; it was somewhat hard to find but I did find it and was really glad to come across your website and "threading instructions". I am looking forward to making lots of new things on this great machine. I loved that it is called "The Rocketeer" , I'm so proud to own one.

Hello girls and the occasional guy,
My grandmas singer 401a finally died on me( the tension is probably unfixable) and i was given a singer 500a machine. It was my M-I-Law's machine. I loved the 401a and have a real good feeling about this machine as well. After oiling and Lubing up the machine(it has been sitting up for a long time)she responded well to being used again.. I have found that the dials i had for the older machine will work just as well in this slightly newer version and all the really cool accessories like the self hemming foot, ruffler and buttonholer will work just as well too. Do I hear an angelic choir? why yes i think so.
I can instruct on how to use the dials and the stitch settings if anyone needs help. My grandma showed me 40 years ago when she first started teaching me to sew. i am addicted to sewing.

Thanks for posting your article. I have a Singer 500A. Trying to locate someone that can fix the tension knob.

I want to take my grandmother's quilt that is in bad condition and cut out a pillow for a keepsake.

My grandmother left me her machine, an all-metal singer, and it takes some getting used to, but now I LOVE it! I've always wanted to know exactly when it was from and what it was called. Thanks so much for your info.

My daughter got a 500A for free and brought it to me to see if it worked. Yay, it does! I'm going to see if I can keep it and gift her my Brother. I got it threaded just fine but couldn't load the bobbin so looked online and stumbled onto your blog. Thanks a million! Happy sewing, Sue
